What to Expect: Our Rehoming Process
We’ve made the owner surrender process as clear and stress-free as possible. Here’s exactly what happens from your first message to your dog’s new beginning.

Complete the rehoming intake form below or call us at (917) 673-9933 to speak with someone directly. There's no pressure and no judgment — just a real conversation about your dog and your situation. We accept Goldendoodles, Labradoodles, Aussiedoodles, Bernedoodles, Sheepadoodles, Pyredoodles, standard poodles, and all doodle mixes.
Intake Assessment
We'll gather information about your dog's age, health history, behavioral notes, and personality. This helps us understand who they are — not just what breed they are — so we can begin building their profile and matching them to the right foster and forever home.
Foster Home Placement
Once accepted, your dog is placed with one of our carefully vetted foster families across California. Foster homes give your dog a safe, loving environment to decompress, show their true personality, and receive any needed veterinary care before adoption.
Rigorous Adoption Matching
We review every adoption application with care — conducting phone interviews, reference checks, vet checks, and in-person meet-and-greets with the entire household including existing pets. We don't just find your dog a home; we find them the right home.
Updates on Your Dog
We know you'll wonder how they're doing. Many of our surrendering owners receive updates as their dog moves through the foster and adoption process. Our Happy Tails archive is full of stories about dogs who came to us through owner surrender and found extraordinary new lives.
Your Dog Will Be Safe, Loved, and Never Given Up On
Every dog who comes into California Doodle Rescue's care is placed in a foster home — never a shelter kennel. Our foster families across Southern California and Northern California provide a real home environment where your dog can thrive while we find the perfect match. We invested more than $460,000 in veterinary care in 2025 alone, because we believe every doodle deserves proper medical attention before, during, and after adoption.
We are a no-kill rescue. We do not euthanize for space, time, or convenience. We take dogs that other rescues decline — including medically complex dogs and specially-abled dogs — because we believe no doodle is too hard to place when you take the time to find the right match. If your dog has medical needs or behavioral challenges, please tell us. It will not disqualify them. It simply helps us find the foster family and forever home best equipped to love them well.
